2.5 years after the first expedition to space, the world is in ruins and falling apart. The most recent space flights have been grounded because of a huge mechanical disaster. Now, the refugees of the spaceships are stuck in the earth’s orbit because the rocket engines no longer work. With some hope, the remaining passengers of the space freighter are heading towards the Earth’s jungle, hoping for a place where they can live out their lives. What awaits them in that dreary realm is a mystery and the uncovering of that mystery is the prime object of a new expedition.

The end has come. For a long while, SanctuaryRPG has been clambering up the mountain of hope, embracing with all its heart the thought of improving those who come through its premise. I’m often fond of how it handles using video games as the means of venturing its backstory; it remains that it has obtained something close to classic status as a RPG indie, revolving around the delivery of a quite beautiful-looking pixelated interface with truly adrenaline-inducing setpieces; while it has been clear since the start that it would struggle on certain numbers (I’m talking you, the market).
Something to remember: this is the second version of the game, and it has received the full and impressive-looking overhaul that was expected. Run the server through your palms, as it suits you: under the hood, the engine has seen changes, and so has its systems; gameplay, too, has been improved, with the main issues tackled and solved. Whatever the size of the operation -I’ve never seen the thing swallow a single-player campaign- its essence comes down to the singularity of its plot, and words can never explain how it has this particular flavour. If I were to extract from this binary I’ve put on the work, I’d go with the idea of “Fists of Steel”, without drums; to no effect. The voice of Dream Theater can’t do it.
In short, it’s the story of a lone vigilante for the greater good, but first: before he and the others, he’s a black ops agent tasked with undoing the project named ‘Trident’, an obscure last-straw effort if history, a project that will divide an otherwise pleasant world.
