Welcome to. Chichester Redux. is a visual novel written by Something Strange. It’s a story about a boy named Jack. Once a member of a local theatre troupe, he’s now an economics teacher with unusual new ambitions. While his coworkers are trying to figure out how to avoid their own student’s weird and sometimes terrifying adventures, Jack has embarked on a suicidal mission. Talk to people and explore the town. Fifty years ago, cultist Johnny Montier bought a book on psychiatry. He couldn’t stop reading it, and became convinced that he could cure mental illness by first understanding its psychological effects. During the course of the book, he created a ritual of drinking and writing that would drain his mind of all emotion. After a year of repeating this ceremony, he succeeded in becoming as emotionless and calm as his patients. He was awarded a Nobel prize for his “cure”.
Jack was one of his first patients. A former member of his theatre troupe, he was the first to share in Johnny’s calm and joyless life. The two were so close that after Jack left, Johnny decided to dedicate his life to teaching.
After a series of incidents involving his students, Jack returned to school. He hadn’t noticed, but a few months had passed during his absence. He felt like he’d been gone for a year. Although their romantic relationship had deepened, he worried that Johnny would want to leave him now that he’d lost his “soul”.
As the students filtered out the door, Jack found Johnny sitting on the sofa. No tears were rolling down his face. Johnny’s peaceful expression was uncharacteristic. With a smile, Johnny said, “I found the cure!”, then raised his bottle to his lips and drained it.

Some notes on the process:
1.) While developing the idea for Welcome To. Chichester Redux., the writer decided to alternate between the script and an early visual novel prototype, so that he could see what he was writing. As a result, the script was about 25% completed
